Interview with Joan Carles Font, President and Founder of Mesoestetic Pharma Group

Interview with Joan Carles Font, President and Founder of Mesoestetic Pharma Group

“I’ve been an entrepreneur in the aesthetic medicine sector for more than 25 years,” begins our conversation with Joan Carles Font, Managing Director of Mesoestetic, held on March 8. For over two decades, he ran a pharmacy in Barcelona, but as times began to change, he decided to embark on a new and exciting adventure, and that’s how Mesoestetic was born.

He describes it as the most important project of his life, not only for its economic success but because his goal was also to have fun. And, as he says with a smile, they are having the time of their lives.

What excites you most about your work?
“What excites me most is the day-to-day, seeing how things take shape, how the project grows, how new people join us, we’ve managed to make sure no one feels indifferent about their work. It’s about consolidating the project day after day. Life is a long-distance race, it’s not about sprinting 100 meters fast, but about reaching the finish line having achieved your goals,” he emphasizes.

And on vacation, where do you like to escape?
“I’m in love with Italy and France, they are two spectacular countries. Send me to the Amalfi Coast, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Capri… It’s fantastic. It has everything: glamour, fashion, gastronomy, everything.”

Back home, what do you love most about your city?
He says Barcelona embodies Mediterranean culture. “Barcelona is my city. I live in the Eixample, in the Quadrat d’Or. I’ll never live in Pedralbes, I’m happy walking along Passeig de Gràcia. I have my shops, my friends, I was born here. It’s a wonderful city, and one of the reasons it’s wonderful is that it welcomes 11 million tourists every year. It’s the cradle of Modernism, it has every artistic expression possible, and world-class gastronomy. Don’t forget, we have the sea, Barcelona has been open to the sea since the 1992 Olympics. It’s a spectacular, human city where neighbors greet each other every morning. I’m in love with Barcelona,” he says fondly.

Do you have any secret hobbies?
“When I was young, I had three great passions: women, cars, and football. And now, I still have three: cars, football, and football,” he laughs. “I’m a Barça supporter, and I have good friends on the board, and I don’t think our generation will ever see another team play football like that one.”

What do you think about the revolution we’re living through with mobile technology?
“I use my phone just to make calls. I don’t have WhatsApp, Facebook, or Twitter, I’m an incurable conversationalist. I love to explain, to debate, to have physical contact with people,” he confesses with laughter.

How would you describe your personal style?
“I have a classic style and I always wear Italian clothes, always. I often buy clothes in Italy, but I’ve also been a lifelong customer of a tailor shop here in Barcelona called Santa Eulàlia,” he explains candidly.

Recommend a book.
“I’m reading a very interesting book called A Lighthouse in the Pampas, by a Brazilian author. It’s a traditional story about the war between Brazil and Argentina, very interesting. There are many books I love, but almost all the works of Carlos Ruiz Zafón are among my favorites,” he says.

What has been the best thing to happen to you this year?
He says, without hesitation, “Seeing our new corporate building become a reality. It’s a great achievement for us. We are a company with no board of directors, no shareholders, we are the owners. Having a building like that, facilities like ours, and having reached this point fills us with personal pride,” he affirms.

He adds, “I’m very proud of everything we’ve done. When I arrive at my company and park my car, I look at the building and think, ‘How beautiful it turned out.’ These are moments of personal satisfaction, yours alone, intransferable, and not something you can easily share.”

Tell us about an experience you would relive.
“Meeting my wife, María José, and having our children, I would absolutely relive that. She’s a wonderful person, and I have two fantastic sons. And if I could change one thing, I would try to get along better with my father, may he rest in peace,” he admits sincerely.

And for you, what is luxury?
“For me, luxury is simple, it’s time plus money. That’s luxury. Quality of life is free time. Luxury can even be just time. Because if you don’t have time, even if you have money, you can’t do much. Luxury is time,” he states.

What would you consider a Spanish luxury product?
“Without a doubt, Joselito ham. And Joselito in Seville doesn’t taste the same as it does here in the north. It’s like having a Barbadillo wine, it doesn’t taste the same in Cádiz as it does in Barcelona. I don’t know why, probably because of the journey,” he admits with a smile.

A meeting that allowed us to discover more about this key figure in the aesthetic sector, a man who dedicates each day to caring for his clients through the best quality skincare products.
