Anna Asimakopoulou is the managing director of Avant Mar Paros and has a solid track record in the luxury hospitality sector. This interview focuses on her vision of hotel excellence, creating authentic experiences, and the future of high-end tourism in the Greek islands.

Avant Mar describes its philosophy as “slow luxury.” What does this concept mean to you, and how is it reflected in the guest experience?
To me, slow luxury is about creating the space and time for guests to truly unwind. It is not defined by excess, but by thoughtful experiences, genuine care and an atmosphere that encourages people to slow their pace and reconnect with
themselves and their surroundings. At Avant Mar, every detail has been carefully considered—from our understated design and personalised service to the rhythm of the day itself. We want guests to feel they can simply be present, whether that
means enjoying a leisurely breakfast overlooking the sea, spending an afternoon by the beach or discovering the charm of Paros without feeling rushed.
The hotel presents a contemporary interpretation of Cycladic hospitality. How do you balance modern sophistication with the authentic character of Paros?
Authenticity is at the heart of everything we do. While Avant Mar offers contemporary comforts and refined design, our inspiration always comes from the island itself. We embrace the warmth, generosity and simplicity that define Cycladic hospitality, while presenting them through a modern lens. We encourage guests to experience the real Paros, from its local traditions and artisan culture to its exceptional food and natural beauty, ensuring that luxury feels deeply connected to the destination rather than separate from it.
Avant Mar enjoys a privileged location beside Piperi Beach and just a short walk from Naoussa. How does this setting shape the hotel’s identity?
Our location is one of our greatest strengths because it offers guests the best of both worlds. Piperi Beach provides an immediate sense of calm and connection with the sea, while Naoussa is only a short stroll away, offering vibrant restaurants,
boutiques and nightlife. Guests can enjoy peaceful moments by the water before effortlessly immersing themselves in the energy of one of the Aegean’s most beautiful villages. That balance between tranquillity and discovery perfectly reflects the spirit of Avant Mar.
The architecture combines traditional Cycladic forms with contemporary design. What emotions did you want the hotel’s spaces to evoke in guests?
Above all, we wanted guests to feel a sense of ease from the moment they arrive. The architecture celebrates the timeless simplicity of the Cyclades, while contemporary design introduces comfort, elegance and lightness. Natural materials, soft textures and carefully framed views create an environment that feels calming and welcoming. We hope guests experience a sense of serenity, but also inspiration, where every space encourages them to relax and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings.
Paros has become one of the Mediterranean’s most desirable destinations. How has the profile of the island’s luxury traveller evolved in recent years?
Today’s luxury traveller is increasingly seeking authenticity alongside comfort. They value meaningful experiences, exceptional service and a genuine connection with the places they visit. Paros has naturally evolved to meet these expectations because it has managed to preserve its character while offering a sophisticated hospitality scene. We are welcoming more international guests who appreciate understated luxury, quality over extravagance and destinations that still retain a strong sense of identity.
Matsuhisa Paros has brought Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s renowned culinary philosophy to the island. What does this collaboration contribute to the overall Avant Mar experience?
Our collaboration with Chef Nobu Matsuhisa brings an internationally recognised dining experience to Avant Mar while remaining perfectly in tune with the relaxed spirit of Paros. Nobu Style cuisine is about exceptional ingredients, precision, creativity and consistency, delivered in an atmosphere that feels welcoming rather than formal. It complements our own
philosophy beautifully, offering guests a world-class culinary experience in a stunning seaside setting. For many of our guests, dining at Matsuhisa Paros becomes one of the defining moments of their stay, enriching the overall Avant Mar experience with something truly memorable.
Wellness at Avant Mar is closely connected to nature, balance and the unhurried rhythm of island life. How important is wellbeing to today’s luxury traveller?
Wellbeing has become an integral part of the luxury travel experience. Today’s guests are looking for more than beautiful surroundings—they want to return home feeling refreshed, balanced and re-energised. At Avant Mar, wellness is woven naturally into the guest experience through our peaceful beachfront setting, outdoor gym, heated pool and thoughtfully curated treatments. Just as important is the slower rhythm of island life, which encourages guests to disconnect from everyday pressures and reconnect with themselves. Often, the greatest luxury is simply having the time and space to pause, breathe and fully embrace the moment.
Personalised hospitality is essential in an intimate boutique hotel. How do you ensure that every guest feels recognised and genuinely cared for?
Personalisation begins with listening. We encourage our team to understand each guest’s preferences before and throughout their stay, paying attention to the small details that make a meaningful difference. Whether remembering a favourite table, recommending a hidden corner of the island or simply greeting someone by name, these thoughtful gestures create genuine connections. Our aim is for every guest to feel welcomed as an individual rather than simply as another arrival.
As General Manager, what is your leadership philosophy, and which values do you seek to inspire within your team?
I believe that great hospitality always begins with people. My role is to create an environment where every team member feels respected, supported and empowered to deliver exceptional service. I encourage open communication, continuous learning and a genuine passion for hospitality. Kindness, professionalism, attention to detail and teamwork are values we live every day because when colleagues feel valued, that positive energy is naturally reflected in the guest experience.
When you personally need to slow down and reconnect, what is your favourite place or experience in Paros?
One of my favourite moments is walking along the coastline early in the morning, before the island fully awakens. The light over the Aegean is extraordinary, and there is a wonderful sense of peace that reminds you why Paros is so special. I also enjoy discovering the island’s smaller villages and quieter beaches, where life still follows its traditional rhythm. Those simple moments of nature, authenticity and stillness perfectly capture the essence of the island for me.
