Cheval Blanc Courchevel: art, luxury, and gourmet cuisine in the French Alps

Located in Courchevel 1850, at the heart of the Les Trois Vallées ski area, Cheval Blanc Courchevel is presented as a mountain Maison conceived to reinterpret the experience of luxury hospitality at altitude. With a deliberately intimate scale and a residential approach, the property integrates accommodation, haute cuisine, wellness, and artistic creation into a single, coherent narrative.

Inaugurated in 2006 as the first Maison in the Cheval Blanc collection, the hotel is set ski-in/ski-out in the exclusive Jardin Alpin sector. The building adopts the classic typology of the Savoyard chalet, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. An ochre façade, carved wooden balconies, and lauze stone roofs engage in dialogue with the alpine landscape, while the interiors offer a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. With 36 rooms and suites, the property focuses on exclusivity based on space, privacy, and highly personalized service.

The interior design, overseen since the outset by Sybille de Margerie, shapes a sensory universe where noble materials such as wood, leather, bronze, and cashmere build a coherent narrative. The entrance, conceived as a large living room with a fireplace, introduces guests to a contemporary mountain home rather than a conventional hotel. The use of taupe as a signature color and the Mountain Chic fragrance reinforce a recognizable and consistent identity.

One of the distinctive features of Cheval Blanc Courchevel is its close relationship with contemporary art. Works by artists such as Paola Pivi, Xavier Veilhan, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Andreas Gursky, and Bruno Peinado are permanently integrated into both indoor and outdoor spaces, transforming the Maison into a lived-in gallery. This cultural dimension does not function as decoration, but as a structural component of the experience, aligned with the group’s creative vocation.

The gastronomic offering occupies a central place. The hotel is home to Le 1947 à Cheval Blanc, a restaurant led by Yannick Alléno and awarded three Michelin stars, the only establishment in Courchevel to hold this distinction. Its cuisine, grounded in in-depth research on sauces and extractions, unfolds in a serene setting where design and landscape converge. Alongside this gastronomic table, the Grill Alpin and La Terrasse de Cheval Blanc provide a more direct and convivial interpretation of mountain cuisine, with an emphasis on embers and smoky flavors, particularly suited to the rhythm of skiing.

The experience is completed by social spaces such as Le Bar and the Yourte Fumoir, a traditional tent reinterpreted as an intimate refuge for cigar and spirits enthusiasts, reinforcing the alpine imagination through a contemporary lens. These venues serve as gathering points after a day on the slopes, encouraging a relaxed and elegant sociability.

Wellness represents another key pillar of the Maison. The Cheval Blanc Spa, developed in collaboration with Guerlain, offers exclusive treatments designed to meet the demands of the alpine climate and high-altitude physical activity. An indoor-outdoor swimming pool, sauna, hammam, Russian banya, and treatment areas are combined with personalized programs and the Hair Room Service by John Nollet, expanding the concept of holistic care.

The rooms and suites, ranging in size from 40 to 315 square meters, are conceived as private residences open to the landscape. All feature balconies or terraces with mountain views, independent living areas, and bathrooms designed as spaces for relaxation. The private chalet, located directly on the slopes and connected to the main Maison, represents the highest level of personalized hospitality within the ensemble.

Cheval Blanc Courchevel also develops a specific offering for families, with dedicated spaces such as Le Carrousel and Le Paddock, as well as activities designed for children and teenagers. This cross-generational attention to different guest profiles reinforces the project’s residential vocation and broadens its appeal beyond a strictly adult clientele.

Integrated into the ecosystem of LVMH Hotel Management, Cheval Blanc Courchevel forms part of an international collection that includes destinations such as Paris, St-Tropez, St-Barth, and the Maldives. Within this context, the alpine Maison retains a foundational role: it is the place where the brand’s codes were defined, based on the combination of design, service, gastronomy, and culture.

In a market where luxury hospitality tends toward standardization, Cheval Blanc Courchevel stands out for its ability to articulate a distinct and coherent identity, deeply connected to its surroundings. Its significance lies not only in its privileged location or its gastronomic accolades, but in having built a comprehensive alpine experience model that brings together intimacy, creation, and operational excellence. In this way, the Maison positions itself as a benchmark for high-end mountain hospitality, with sustained international reach and a narrative aligned with the expectations of the contemporary traveler.
